harbors

Ellen Fullman’s album “Harbors” is a three song album and is categorized as experimental and is based on the San Francisco harbor. She plays her “long string instrument” while Theresa Wong accompanies her on the cello. This album is very dark and mysterious. It quite literally takes you through a journey in the foggy San Francisco harbor.

Detail of the tangled horns used as a base for the visual identity.

To create a visual identity for the album, I thought that using an abstract visual would be best since Fullman’s music is unique, intense and mystery filled. The chosen visual was a set of tangled horns which were then stylised. The idea was that it indirectly represented floating wood found in harbors as well as the movement and contrast in Fullman’s music. Using antlers, I explored many different compositions until I found one that corresponded perfectly to the idea and the album. I then created an interaction with the type to represent the merging of the two instruments used.
